Introduction to Disaster
Introduction to computer, Its component and functions, applications in various fields of science and management. Use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Excess, Inernet, Email, etc.
• Remote Sensing - Introduction
Introduction to remote sensing, definition, physical basis of remote sensing, electromagnetic spectrum, radiation laws, atmospheric effects, basics of optical, thermal and microwave remote sensing, history of remote sensing, geometric and radiometric aspects of RS data. EMR interaction with earth surface materials, Spectral signatures of vegetation, water, soil, snow etc. in different regions of EMR, ground truth data.
• Platforms, Sensors and Satellites
Aerial and space borne platforms, orbits, sensors types – optical (multispectral, hyper spectral), thermal and microwave, resolutions, Satellites: Land sat, SPOT, IRS, ERS, Radar sat, RISAT, and other operational remote sensing satellites.
• Data Analysis
Visual interpretation – Scale, maps and map projections, interpretation keys; image characteristics, media and formats of digital images, image enhancement, image transformations, classification – unsupervised and supervised classification, classifiers, accuracy estimation, change detection.
• Geographical Information System
Introduction, GIS definition and terminology, data types, raster and vector data, GIS database design, spatial database creation – digitization, scanning; processing of data, GIS implementation and project management. Commercially available remote sensing and GIS software.
• Global Positioning System
Introduction, description of GPS system- Space segment, control segment, User segment, observation, principle and signal structure, GPS receivers, application GPS hands on practical.
ERDAS Imagining: Introduction to Erdas Imagine Software, Geo referencing, supervised classification, unsupervised classification.
Arc GIS: Introduction to Arc GIS, Map Projections, Projecting data for Display, Geo referencing, Creating and editing new layers, Adding and updating Attribute information, Annotation and labeling, working with raster, Map elements, Map designing, GIS Analysis, Proximity analysis, Multilayer analysis, change analysis.
• Group exercise:- Small project on selected topics.
